The Russians are coming! Free concert at St. Luke’s
LYRA, a five-member vocal ensemble from St. Petersburg, Russia, will present a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Blue Ridge. The first half of the concert will feature chants and songs of the Russian Orthodox Church music, followed in the second half by Russian folk songs. In between selections Sergey Tupitsyn, director, will give a lively description of each piece and discuss Russian customs.
LYRA is a community of professional musicians, most of whom are graduates of St. Petersburg Conservatory. The group’s goal is to explore and popularize Russian choral music. LYRA has been awarded the Montreux (Switzerland) Internal Choral Festival diploma and was the winner of the Coleraine International Choral Festival in Northern, Ireland.
No admission will be charged; however, a retiring offering will be taken.
